Realism Reunites with Abstract with Francheskaa

Register

Wednesdays April 15, 22, 29 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

All Levels, $150 for members and $160 for non-members

You are a Realist Painter. You paint subjects that are personal and makes you and others feel good. You receive compliments for your realistic paintings. People recognize the subjects and their beauty. But you are curious and have questions about abstract painting. How do they do it? Do they paint abstractly because they can’t draw? How do they start painting abstractly?

Abstract Painters paint intuitively from their heart. They use the same Principles and Elements as the Realists do. The only difference, there is no subject in an abstract painting. Francheskaa will demonstrate and show examples of how realism can be united and how to combine realism into an abstract painting while painting the subjects you love to paint.

It will be a journey of exploration and joy. If you are willing to take the leap you will discover there is more inside you than you imagined.

Two or three paintings will be completed.

Fluid Acrylic Pouring with Nancy Springer

Register

Saturday, April 18 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
All Levels, $60 for members, $70 for non members

This is basically a beginner’s class but would be fun for anyone. The basics of fluid acrylic pouring to create beautiful paintings will be presented.

Students will learn how to prepare the acrylic paint and additives to the correct consistency and what to add to make cells. Two paintings will be created in class featuring the “ring pour” and the “dirty pour.”  If time permits, a third painting may be possible featuring another style.

Finished paintings will remain in the Topaz Room over the weekend to dry. Moving the paintings while wet will most likely shift paint and alter the end result.

The teacher will provide canvases, mixing cups and sticks, gloves, paint additives, and distilled water. This is going to be a fun class. Once the basics are learned, there is no limit to where your imagination can take you.

Note: any acrylic may be used but the Instructor suggests that beginners used the craft paints so that their initial investment is not huge. Craft paints give great results.

Tuesdays April 21, 28, May 5, 12 (4 weeks) from 9:00 am – noon

Level: Intermediate - Advanced, $95 for members and $105 for non-members

All successful forms of art such as poetry, play writing, the ballet, for example, as well as the familiar painting and drawing, shows some form of emotion. The artist is evoked into expressing a feeling or feelings and would like the viewer to experience it also. You can feel what is being brought out either by the rhythm of the words, the gestures of the dancers, the scenery or the script- sadness, desolation, fright, happiness or even elation. This is what makes the work unforgettable.

This particular four-week class will demonstrate how just by listening to music or a song, an artist can paint or draw a meaningful and imaginative drawing or painting. The song may bring back memories of something from the past or stir up new feelings. With Laurie’s encouragement, the next step will be to put the visions down on paper or canvas, abstract or realism. She will help you get into your feelings through use of subject matter, color, form, and technique.
