The Arts have proven to be the universal language between members of the Fine Arts Guild and artist residents at Desert Point at La Reserve.

About one year ago, four members of the Guild, Laurie Brussel, Harriet Hason, Robbie Summers and Judy Wyner decided to create an Arts Workshop Program for any interested residents at Desert Point.  The group meets twice a month for two hour sessions.  The workshops provide time and instruction for the residents to create original works of art in the areas of drawing, painting and mixed media.  All art supplies and materials used for the program are funded by the Guild.

The Visual Arts have brought these two groups of people together.  However, the art projects are only one part of what has become a life changing experience for all involved.  Conversations about color, composition and materials have grown into a sharing of personal history, life experiences, respect and affection.

In the fall of 2006, the Desert Point Artists had their first group art show at Desert Point.  Residents exhibited works in watercolor, colored pencil, collage and mixed media.  Another show is planned for Spring 2007.  All are welcome to attend.

This successful program supports the notion that Outreach is Reaching Out.  And, in this instance the vehicle for reaching out is the Visual Arts.
