FACES AND FIGURES—with
Vivian Sathre
Intermediate to Advanced
Watercolor
Thursdays
Oct. 7th – 28th
4 weeks (each class is 4 hours long)
Cost: $100.00
**
NOTE:
Drawing skills are NOT necessary for this painting class.
It is better to come to class with an accurately proportioned face that
has been traced than one that has been drawn freehand and is out of
proportion.
In
this 16 hour course we will start each afternoon with a critique session
followed by a demo where I will again be using my scribble stroke.
After my demo students will paint and I will offer individual
assistance.
We
will paint a face in each of the first two classes. Both faces
must be of strangers. (Resources for this class should be
clear photographs with good sun light from the side. (not flash
photos). The last two classes will be spent painting figures.
The first figure will be done in the fade out style. The second figure
will be painted in your choice of a setting. (I would like the
more advanced students to compose their second drawing from two
different resources (a person from one resource, a setting from
another).
I
usually paint on Fabriano Artistico 140# hot press paper.
The
main colors I use for flesh tones are yellow ochre (raw sienna will do)
and cad red light. I also use manganese blue or cerulean.
Other
supplies; Your regular watercolor supplies; at least ¼ sheet of hot
press paper and good reference photos
**NOTE:
Come to the first class with a face already drawn on your paper.
About an 8 x 10 is a good size. Remember to also bring your
resource photo.
Hint:
Start taking photos now, some from behind people, some head-on. It
takes a lot of picture taking to get the perfect resource photo.
