Beginning Acrylics
This 4 week course is an introduction to working in Acrylic paints. Laurie will cover the variety of materials associated with Acrylic painting such as the actual paints, brushes, painting surfaces, and Acrylic Mediums. She will also give lessons in color theory, how to mix paints, and different techniques. Students will work on their own projects at their own pace. Laurie will work with each student individually. There will be a class critique and various demonstations.
For the first class, you will learn how to use the medium properly. Laurie suggests students bring in a few canvas boards, Acrylic tubes of paint (see below), water holder, Acrylic brushes (flat in a few sizes), a rag to wipe brushes, and palate (paper palates are fine and come in pads), and a cover for the tables.
A few fruits such as lemons, limes, oranges, bananas, grapes, or, vegetables such as squash, peppers, etc are suggested for the first class. Students will set up their own still life to practice techniques. Also, bring in a stretched canvas and some choices of subject matter (objects for a still life or a photo for reference) to later begin a painting.
Suggested paint colors for the first class are Titanium White, Cadmium Red, Dioxazine Purple, Ultramarine Blue, Sap Green, Yellow Ocre, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Raw Umber and Paynes Grey.
