Texture Intensive
Workshop
Carol Ann
October 9, 2010
We will make texture practice sheets while
we explore texturing techniques and materials using acrylic mediums,
glazing, alcohol, waxed paper, plastic wrap, scraping, impasto,
string, brayers, bubble wrap, and many others. We will discuss the
use of texture as a design element including when texture may or may
not be appropriate, and how texture can create depth and enhance the
visual impact of a painting. Finally, we will make actual paintings
so that we can see first-hand the various ways that texture can be
used. You will be asked to bring your standard working materials
(paper, paints, palette, brushes, etc), and some texturing materials
that you likely have on hand, but I will provide many texturing
materials and a variety of surfaces. I do ask that you bring two
full-sized sheets of pre-gessoed watercolor paper. This class is
for acrylic painters with some painting experience (you don't need a
lot of experience, just a little will do).
