Learning to See - Beginner Drawing Part 1 with Laurie Brussel

This is a short three-week class geared for individuals who have always been afraid to take a drawing class. More experienced artists who would like to build their confidence and deepen their artistic perceptions are also welcomed. You will learn to shift from you usual analytical processing (left-brain mode) to a more creative way of thinking and seeing (right-brain mode). In these three weeks the basic areas of drawing such as measuring, shading and perspective will be covered. A second part to the class (also three weeks) following this one will continue the drawing process.

Experience Collage Journaling with Deb Kresnicka

This is a creative way to process your feelings: pages to record memorable days, moments and locations. You will create a small journal with a simple binding to practice methods, and then will begin a personal journal using collage methods on blank and prepared pages. There will be a $5 supply fee paid to the instructor on day one.

Altering and Transferring Images with Gretchen Bierbaum - All Levels

Participants will complete at least two collages in each class using pieces they create by transferring and altering images. Ancestor photos copies with toner machines (not ink jet) will personalize collages. Another concept will be Native Indian Chief cameos (cameos supplied by instructor). This class has a supply fee of $5 paid directly to the instructor on first day of class.

Color Game - Expand Your Creativity with Gail Kolenda - All Levels

All mediums welcomed-watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, and pastel. You must bring your own supplies. Please bring a color wheel if you have one. Artwork should be no larger than 11x 14.

Bring a simple composition, can be flowers, landscapes, and so forth. Do a simple drawing on your paper before class. The color wheel will be discussed and studied. Each artist will choose one of the different color options (using only three colors) and complete the artwork using the chosen option.

Part 1 Beginning Watercolor with Karen Brungardt - Beginner+

This course is for anyone who wants to try watercolor or return to the medium for a refresher course. You will learn the absolute basics: brushwork, washes, color theory, design, types of paper, composition and more. Introduction to Shibouri with Loraine Stillman - All Levels

Shibori is a traditional Japanese method of creating designs on fabric through assorted methods of creating designs on fabric resist dyeing, i.e., sewing folding, clamping. Create a beautiful silk scarf as a final project.

This is class is a continuation of Learning to See-Part 1. For beginners, it will be a continuation of learning more about the drawing process. For other levels, it  will build up you confidence, stimulate your creativity and deepen your artistic perceptions. There will be a short review of the first part and then cover ares such as texture, draping and medium of pen and ink. Remember, anyone can draw. It is a matter of training your eyes to see.

One of a Kind Design with Gail Kolenda - All Levels
12/1   12/8      Thursdays 9-12 Lunch 1-3     Topaz Room

All mediums welcomed-watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, and pastel.  You must bring your own supplies. Please bring a color wheel if you have one. Artwork should be no larger than 11x 14.

Supplies will be available for artist to make a simple card using paper, ink, and other items. From that final created card you will then blow up the design to make it a composition for a painting. Color and design will be discussed. You will go home with two complete projects. There will be a supply fee of $5.

Watercolor Desert Flora with Karen Brungardt – Beginner+
12/2   12/9          Fridays 9-12                          Topaz Room
This two-day course will give you an opportunity to learn how to paint different cacti, such as saguaro, ocotillo, prickly pear, etc, and on the second day you will learn how to paint the trees of the desert, such as mesquite and palo verde. This will be a fun and informative hands-on painting course with take home knowledge and sample paintings of the different flora. Please have suggestions of what YOU would like to learn to paint! There may be a $5 supply fee paid to the instructor on day one if you require some supplies.

Contrast: Light vs. Dark with Karen Brungardt – Beginner+

This two -day course over two weeks will give you an opportunity to learn how to use lights versus darks in your watercolor paintings to help highlight areas, bring out the center of interest, and give interest to your painting.
